Welcome to Mopp
Moving on project Portsmouth

We are a charitable incorporated organisation(CIO) and a registered Charity that work alongside many service  providers to help families or individuals that are experiencing financial  hardship whilst setting up a first time home or help  to replace household items if already in accommodation and experiencing  financial hardship.

We are supported by Portsmouth City Council who provide our storage units at a reduced rate to enable us to help others.

We supply many items of furniture and household items that are donated to use by the general  public.
Whilst we are supported by Portsmouth City Council we receive no financial funding at this time so we depend on donations of furniture and household items by the public. We were fortunate enough to receive a grant from Cllr. Luke Stubbs which helped us purchase a van which we use to collect donations and help with removals for our clients

Sarah and Brenda, two local ladies from Buckland, have been the force behind the Moving On Project Portsmouth (MoPP) who, for the last two years, have already made a significant impact in helping the less fortunate in the Portsmouth area. They are now backed up with a growing group of volunteers. MoPP is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) and a registered charity working alongside many service providers to help families or individuals that are experiencing financial hardship. There is an impressive list of referral partners, for example, Portsmouth City Council Housing Office, Adult and Children’s services. The Society of St James and the Roberts Centre. Our only source of funding is small grants and fundraising.

Brenda and Sarah operate from lock up units in Grafton Street, Buckland, which are often freezing and leaking. Nevertheless. they and their volunteers turn up on a daily basis to carry out the much- valued service. The main objective is to help those who have just been allocated social housing but have no furniture or household items which MoPP supply free of charge from donated items. These people have just been allocated housing, often after a long wait, and have literally nothing to use at home. MoPP supplies beds, bedding, bedside tables, wardrobe, sofa, dining table and chairs, welcome packs etc. The difference this makes to their lives is incredible. They go from empty rooms with nowhere to sleep or store their clothes or to sit with family or friends to starting to turn four square walls and empty rooms into a real home and to know that their community truly cares about them.

Their track record and the increasing numbers of referrals show how confident their partners are in them. Volunteers do delivery and upcycling furniture, they won a volunteer award from PCC.

Please support MoPP with furniture donations, items for the on-line auction or cash donations.
